The Daddy Complex

High-res We let our boys jump on the bed. And jump off the bed. It’s the boys’ favorite pre-bedtime activity… also, their favorite mid-day activity and occasionally their favorite late-afternoon activity. That blur is Wyatt hurling himself across the room. They usually pile their beanbag chairs, pillows and blankets between their two beds and execute dramatic leaps. (Don’t worry, I moved that table.) They have yet to experience a mid-air collision because we taught them early on, if they were going to do aerial acrobatics, they needed to take turns. Last night, Wyatt perfected a jump in which he spins a full 360 degrees and lands in a sitting position. He also did one in which he somehow missed the beanbag and landed on his back, legs up in the air. He thought it was hysterical. My wife said, “Your son, Chevy Chase.”

  1. daughterofthebeard said: I wonder all the time if I’m setting myself up for disaster by helping/letting my daughter jump on the bed, climb ladders and trees, balance on things, stand up in the swings, etc. What happens if/when she does these things when I’m not around?
