Regarding The Short-Lived mumblrgossip Blog And The Reaction To It

The person who started mumblrgossip did so to retaliate or highlight what she claimed was drama and aggression in the Tumblr parent community. What the author and many others could have done, however, is react in a way that they would want their children to react — be the person they want their child to be.

I struggle with this every day because, generally, I hate people. But, I don’t want my boys to hate people. I want them to enjoy life and see humor in those who spew venom. So, I don’t jump on haters anymore, I don’t call people out for doing stupid things, I don’t assume I know what’s going on in other people’s lives.

Most importantly, however, I don’t associate with people who find joy in hurting others. Because my wife and I are my boys’ most powerful influences and exorcising the haters from my life is the smart decision, the one I’d want them to make. You want to talk shit about me or others or offer petty attacks to combat other petty attacks? Fine. I’ll be over here creating a train track with my boys.

People suck. That shouldn’t surprise anyone. And it’s not just on Tumblr. Step outside. They’re everywhere. There’s nothing that you can do to change that. What you can change is how you react. If you let those people bring out the worst in you, you’re no better than them.
